The road east
US-59 connects Laredo to Freer, George West, Beeville, Victoria, and eventually Houston. Near Laredo it runs with Loop 20 and I-69W around the World Trade Bridge and the east side of the city, passes Laredo International Airport, and then heads east as the Lloyd Bentsen Highway into the brush country of Webb and Duval counties.
This corridor is planned to become I-69W, linking the World Trade Bridge to I-69 at Victoria. Until that work is done, most of the route east of Laredo is a rural highway with long distances between towns.

Why US-59 breakdowns are different
On Laredo city streets, a mechanic might be a few miles away. On US-59 east of town, the nearest help can be a long drive in either direction. That changes what matters:
- Accurate location. Note mile markers as you drive and know whether you’re closer to Laredo or Freer.
- A good description. The more dispatch knows, the more likely the mechanic arrives with the right parts on the first trip.
- Fuel. Don’t push the tanks. Running out on an open highway turns a fuel stop into a service call.
- Water and shade. In summer, waiting on a rural shoulder in full sun is dangerous. Carry plenty of water.
Common problems on this route
Sustained highway speed in South Texas heat is the defining condition. Tire blowouts, overheating, and belt and hose failures are common, and so are DEF and aftertreatment derates that force a driver to crawl to a stop. Ranch and oilfield traffic toward Freer adds hydraulic, suspension, and tire damage to the mix.
While you wait
Stop as far off the pavement as you safely can — watch for soft shoulders and tall dry grass, which can catch fire from a hot exhaust. Put out your warning devices, turn on your hazards, and stay out of the travel lane. See the breakdown guide for more.

US-59 roadside repair FAQ
Is US-59 becoming I-69W?
The US-59 corridor from Laredo to Victoria is planned as I-69W. Only a short section near the World Trade Bridge is signed as interstate so far, with construction extending the freeway toward the airport.
Do you cover US-59 out to Freer?
Yes. US-59 between Laredo and Freer is part of our service area. Call with your location and dispatch will give you an estimated arrival time.
How do I get from Freer to I-35?
SH-44 connects Freer with I-35 at Encinal (Exit 39).
What should I do if I run out of fuel on US-59?
Get safely off the road, hazards on, warning devices out, and call. Don’t crank the engine over and over — delivered fuel plus priming the fuel system will get it restarted.
